How it works
Use one truck and the same month for all costs and miles. Include both fixed and variable operating expenses and all loaded + empty miles. Convert annual costs to monthly amounts yourself before entering them.
Cost per mile = (monthly fixed costs + monthly variable costs) ÷ (monthly loaded + empty miles).
A monthly example
A $2,400 truck payment plus $1,150 insurance gives $3,550 in fixed costs. Add $5,700 fuel and $800 maintenance: variable costs are $6,500 and total monthly costs are $10,050. Divide by 9,500 miles: the detailed rate is $1.0579/mi, displayed as $1.06/mi.
